The Strathroy Link Road scheme comprises an approximately 0.9km long single carriageway link road connecting the B84 Derry Road to the U1526 Strathroy Road. The south-western end of the Strathroy Link Road will tie into the B84 Derry Road via a new roundabout and tie into Strathroy Road via a new T-junction. The scheme will feature a significant bridge over the Strule River comprising a three span structure with total length of approximately 95m.
The new link will greatly reduce the severance effect of the River Strule - currently there is almost no interaction between the communities on the two banks of the river. The nearest bridge is a footbridge 1km away, while the nearest road crossing is at Sedan Avenue, in the town centre. This road link will encourage greater economic and social cohesion. The scheme will provide a link between the north-west of Omagh and the north-east of Omagh, and thereby reduce journey times between the two. It will also serve to reduce traffic congestion in Omagh town centre.
Barry Transportation were involved in the structural and geotechnical checks for the Strule River Bridge. On the geotechnical side, this included analysis of band drains installed in compressible ground and checks on the design of bored, cast in-situ reinforced concrete piles with rock sockets at the bridge pier.
