In the summer of 1999 our first appointments were for the M3 Navan to Dunshaughlin and the N52 Mullingar to Belvedere schemes. A year later, we consolidated our partnership and formed an incorporated company, Halcrow Barry Limited, in August 2000.

We have over the last 18 years developed organically a large team of well qualified, very experienced and competent Engineers and Project Managers, located regionally in our offices in Castlebar, Dublin and Cork.

From the 1st of March 2018 the company formerly known as Halcrow Barry and latterly CH2M Barry is now Barry Transportation. Our teams working with you on current schemes will remain the same, we are committed to maintaining the excellent level of service on all existing projects and look forward to applying our capacity developed over the past two decades to the challenging future development of the country’s infrastructure.

Project Description

Halcrow Barry have been commissioned by Sligo County Council to bring the N4 Collooney to Castlebaldwin Road Development Project through Phases 5 to 7 of the Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) Project Management Guidelines. This includes producing a Specimen Design and Contract Document preparation, Tender and Contract Award, as well as Construction Supervision, Handover, Review and Closeout.

The existing N4 between Collooney and Castlebaldwin is approximately 14.5km narrow single carriageway road with restricted opportunities for safe overtaking, numerous junctions and accesses and high volumes of traffic, which has resulted in high collision levels in recent years. The proposed scheme provides a Type 2 Dual Carriageway through a combination of online (2.6km) and offline improvements (12.1km), with a tie-in section of single carriageway to the existing N4. The project includes three at-grade roundabout junctions, four road overbridges, six road underbridges and two river bridges.
